The citizens of Steyr have already expressed their sorrow for the corona dead and their solidarity with those who are tirelessly fighting the pandemic with a sea of lights under the motto “Steyr we care” – once at the Red Fountain, once on December 23rd in front of the Steyr town hall announced to standing assistants in the health professions. Now numerous groups are calling for a third commemoration and a silent protest on Sunday from 6 p.m. in front of the town hall and at the Leopoldi fountain. This time the sea of lights is under the motto “Vaccinate instead of scolding”. In connection with this, the way for reason and science in the corona pandemic should be prepared. “We’re showing unreasonableness the red card,” says a member of the organizing team, who duly reported the demonstration to the police.
Against the noise terror
Red cards are therefore distributed to the participants, candles for the sea of lights should be brought along. Possible provocations or even confrontations with the 55th unannounced walk of the science-hostile corona deniers and opponents of vaccination and measures, which started at the same time in front of the Marienkirche, should be avoided. It is recommended to come to the sea of lights via intermediate bridges and the narrows.
The protest should be “silent” because it is also directed against the noise terror that has been emanating from Sunday walkers for a year and from which numerous Steyr citizens are suffering. A corresponding petition on change.org under the slogan “Stop the illegal Corona demos in Steyr” to protect the population has already been signed by more than 1,800 people.
Since both events – the sea of lights and the walk – take place in parallel on Sunday, the Steyr police will also be particularly challenged this time. At least 60 officers will be on duty to escort the walk again on the one hand, but also to create a 50-meter security corridor between the two events. “The town square is monitored, we have a drone in action,” says city police commander Christian Moser, “I assume that everything will remain calm. An escalation would not be desirable for either side.”
Punishment for illegal police officers
Incidentally, the four “illegal” police officers who were wearing false police uniforms on the last walk were identified and reported. You must expect fines.
