The officer stood on the road to stop a driver who was in a wild chase across Mauthausen with the police. But the woman drove towards the police officer without braking. At a railway viaduct, the driver finally had to stop because of the traffic situation and was arrested.
The driver is not unknown to the police: The 23-year-old local had to give up her driver’s license about a year ago, but has since been caught several times because she was driving without a license and sometimes even under the influence of drugs. Officers found drugs in the vehicle.
Shots in Steyr
Shots were even fired during a chase in Steyr on Thursday evening. A 33-year-old Turkish-born Austrian reversed at full throttle towards three police officers and rammed their emergency vehicle. The officers shot the car in self-defense, but the driver was not injured. The man continued his escape first by car and then on foot. He fell over an embankment about ten meters high. He dislocated his shoulder and ended up lying in a creek bed, where officers arrested him. According to the 33-year-old, the reason for the escape was the vehicle, which was not approved for traffic.
