At least 10 people were injured in a magnitude 6.4 earthquake in southwestern Japan, Kyodo news agency reported on January 22, citing authorities.
According to local prefects, six people were injured in the city of Oita, mostly minor. In Miyazaki, police confirmed four people were injured, including a woman in her 50s who fell out of bed. Injuries have also been reported in Saga and Kumamoto prefectures in Kyushu.
The exact number of those injured is yet to be established, as of Saturday afternoon, there are more than 10 of them, Kyodo reports.
In addition, according to the agency, after the earthquake in Oita there was a temporary power outage. Water pipe bursts have been reported at several locations in the city.
At the same time, it is noted that the earthquake did not lead to a failure in the operation of nuclear power plants located in the region.
An earthquake hit southwestern Japan on Saturday night. Tremors were recorded at 1:08 Saturday local time (19:08 Friday Moscow time). The source of the earthquake lay under water at a depth of 42 km.
