National Hockey League (NHL) New York Islanders legend and Hockey Hall of Famer Clark Gillis has died at the age of 67. This was announced on Saturday, January 22, by the press service of the club.
“He embodied what it means to be the representative of the Islanders. The pride he felt in playing for the club was evident in his willingness to do whatever it took to win,” team president and general manager Lou Lamoriello responded to the news.

Gillis played for the Islanders from 1974 to 1986 and spent 12 seasons with the team. He was the captain of the club from 1977 to 1979, Sport-Express writes.
It is noted that in the NHL Gillies played 958 games in which he scored 319 goals and completed 378 assists. In Stanley Cup playoff games, he played in 164 games, scoring 47 goals and completing 47 assists. The hockey player takes fourth place in the history of the Islanders. by goals and points. He was one of 17 players at the club to win four Stanley Cups in a row from 1980 to 1983.
Gillis spent the last two seasons of his playing career with the Buffalo Sabers before retiring in 1988. The hockey player was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2002.
