Pushkov called the words of the head of the British Foreign Office surprising because of ignorance

The statement of British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss about the invasions of “Mongols and Tatars” in Ukraine is surprising in its ignorance and is natural. The corresponding statement was made on Saturday, January 22, by Russian Senator Alexei Pushkov.

“The surprisingly ignorant statement of the head of the British Foreign Office about Ukraine, which definitely received this position not for knowledge of history and foreign policy, is not a mistake at all. This is a new rule. It can be explained simply – by the lack of a clear picture of history and solid clichés and ideologemes in the head, ”he wrote on Telegram.

According to Pushkov, he would not be surprised if Truss really believes that Ukraine existed at the time of the Mongol-Tatar invasion, since for modern Western politicians the truth of historical facts “does not matter.”

“It is enough for them to repeat a set of stamped phrases and repeat liberal mantras. Education was one of the first victims of the neoliberal revolution in the West,” the senator specified.

He added that any predecessor of Truss would not have called Ukraine a country with a great history, but “guessed that such a country simply did not exist in the 13th-15th centuries.”

A day earlier, the head of the British Foreign Office, in a speech at the Lowy Institute think tank in Sydney, said that Ukraine is a proud country with a long history, since Ukrainians “knew invasions before – from the Mongols to the Tatars, they suffered from famine arranged by the state.”

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, in turn, asked a question in Telegram about the name of the educational institution that issued the diploma to the British Foreign Minister.

She also asked her British colleague about how much time, in her opinion, had passed between the two invasions – the Mongols and the Tatars.

The day before, Colonel-General, ex-head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) Igor Smeshko announced the need to restore the “true”, “historical” name of Ukraine. According to him, the state should be called Rus-Ukraine.

On December 22, 2021, Alexei Arestovich, ex-adviser to the head of the office of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, said that Ukrainians invented Russia and the USSR. In his opinion, the founders of the Russian Empire were Feofan Prokopovich, a graduate of the Kiev-Mohyla Academy, and Ivan Mazepa, the hetman of the Zaporozhian Army.
