Police chased speeders for three hours through half of Styria

Due to his rough driving style, a 64-year-old speeder in Styria was able to escape the police for three hours on Friday. The Tyrolean was first spotted around 5 p.m. on the A9 near the municipality of Kalwang (Leoben district). A driver had reported to the police that a car with a Tyrolean license plate was driving in a conspicuous manner.

A police patrol then wanted to stop the man at the Gleinalm toll station. The man ignored the officers and hit the gas. The Gleinalm tunnel was then blocked with barriers, and the speeder actually stopped at the barrier system. Before an officer could reach the suspect’s vehicle, however, the suspect hit the gas and sped through the tunnel at 180 km/h, according to police.

The patrol took up the pursuit, but the 63-year-old also ignored a blocking of the Schartnerkogel tunnel and then disappeared. Around 9 p.m., another driver reported that he had seen the Kufstein vehicle, which had been damaged in the meantime. Namely in St. Nikolai ob Draßling (Leibnitz district) in the very south of Styria.

Three police patrols searched for the car and finally discovered it in Labuttendorf. When the officers wanted to get the driver to stop, he drove towards the police officers. Eventually he gave up – at least behind the wheel.

Because after getting out, the man continued his resistance and injured an officer on the cheek. According to the preliminary alcohol test, the man had a high alcohol level, and he refused a test with a calibrated alcohol dispenser. His driver’s license was taken away from him and his weapons were confiscated at his place of residence in Kufstein. The 64-year-old is reported for numerous offenses.
