Sources close to the Ukrainian government confirmed that the United States has already issued the order and informed the Kiev authorities that the evacuations “could start next week at the earliest”.
The decision generated discomfort in the local authorities, to the point that it transpired that the president, Volodimir Zelenski, recently spoke with the US Secretary of State, Antony Blink, on the subject and told him that the decision would be an “exaggerated reaction” that could weaken confidence in the Ukrainian government.
The State Department did not deny or confirm this information and limited itself to stating that it is developing “rigorous contingency plans, as is always the case, in the event that the security situation deteriorates.”
On the other hand, the German newspaper Bild added more information to the subject by assuring that the German Foreign Ministry is currently preparing a plan to evacuate the families of its embassy staff in Ukraine in the event of an escalation of tensions in the Slavic country.
“The Foreign Ministry is preparing a plan for the evacuation of relatives of the staff of the German Embassy in Ukraine. According to the plan, they should be removed from the country in the event of a further deterioration of the situation,” writes the outlet, quoted by the Sputnik agency.
