Seven killed in minibus explosion in Afghanistan

Seven people were killed and ten more were injured in a minibus explosion in the city of Herat, the center of the province of the same name in western Afghanistan. This was reported on Saturday, January 22, by the local news agency Bakhtar, citing the head physician of the hospital where the victims were taken.

It is noted that after the night explosion, seven dead and ten injured were taken to the hospital.

According to the head doctor Jalali, four of the dead and five injured are women. Journalists on social networks report that children, including young girls, were also affected.

The Taliban movement, which seized power in Afghanistan (is under UN sanctions for terrorist activities), confirmed the explosion in Herat. However, none of the armed groups operating in the country claimed responsibility for what happened.

Earlier, on January 16, two children were killed in an explosion in Kabul, Afghanistan. It is noted that the bomb exploded in a Taliban car, killing two children and injuring several civilians.

The situation in Afghanistan escalated in May 2021 after the start of the withdrawal of US troops who had been in the country since 2001. Members of the Taliban movement launched an offensive against the country’s major cities and entered Kabul on August 15, announcing the end of the war.
