The signs before the Bundesliga game between UVC McDonald’s Ried and the guests from St. Pölten couldn’t have been clearer: on the one hand the undefeated Rieders (six games, six wins), on the other hand the winless Lower Austrians, with Matthias Hofinger there is a Rieder in the squad. At the beginning, St. Pölten was able to keep the game open. From the middle of the first round, the Rieders gained momentum and won it safely with 25:19. This laid the foundation for the ultimately clear and safe 3-0 home win.
Double reason to celebrate
“It was more of a work victory. We had one or two changes in the starting line-up. What was important was that we got the three points,” said Markus Berger after the home win in front of around 600 fans in the Raiffeisen Volleydome. After the success in less than an hour and a half, not only was the continuation of the winning streak celebrated, but also the 30th birthday of middle blocker and “UVC Ried veteran” Felix Breit.
