Monarch on the road again: Queen flew to Sandringham

The Queen was flown to Sandringham by helicopter and will stay there for a few weeks, the British news agency reported on Sunday afternoon. The Queen usually spends the winter weeks leading up to February 6th, the anniversary of her accession to the East English country estate.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of this event. However, the big celebrations for the platinum jubilee should not take place until the beginning of June – for the anniversary of the coronation.

On other winters, however, the Queen travels to Sandringham before Christmas. Because of the corona pandemic, however, the 95-year-old decided for the second year in a row to cancel the big family Christmas there and stay at Windsor Castle, where some of her children and grandchildren visited her. The Queen had previously taken a few weeks of health rest after doctors advised her to cancel public appearances in Northern Ireland and Scotland due to ill health.
