A 21-year-old resident had smoked a cigarette on the first floor and then disposed of it in a rubbish bin. After that, the man went into the bathroom and took a bath. After about ten minutes he noticed the smell of burning.

He immediately tried to put out the bed, which was already on fire, with a fire extinguisher and a bucket of water, but was unsuccessful. His 58-year-old mother called the fire brigade and then tried to extinguish it. The fire brigade finally managed to extinguish the fire.

The two residents suffered injuries while trying to extinguish the fire and were taken to the Kepler University Hospital. The man’s 90-year-old grandmother, who lives on the ground floor, was unharmed and was housed in another part of the building until further notice because of the risk of collapse.
