Construction work is ongoing and 80 million euros are to be invested in the modernization of the Ried barracks over the next few years. 220 professional soldiers are currently stationed at Panzergrenadier Battalion 13 in Ried, and there are expected to be 250 in the next few months. Dominik Friedinger from Innviertel, newly crowned Soldier of the Year in Austria, is helping a lot: the commander of the reconnaissance platoon has developed into a specialist in recruiting. “The way he interacts is exemplary, he is a motivator. Some soldiers have been specially transferred here to Ried. It’s about camaraderie and the quality of training,” said battalion commander Alfred Steingreß.
