Several fires kept firefighters on their toes over the weekend. 115 firefighters were on Sunday night in a full fire in a residential building in St. Peter in the Au in the Amstetten district.
According to the Amstetten district fire brigade command, a person who was in the building was able to get to safety and alert the fire brigade. The fire broke out in an outbuilding of the house, which was already completely on fire when the emergency services arrived
The fire brigade started extinguishing the fire, but the flames still spread to the roof of the main building. Only in the early hours of the morning could the operations management from the St. Peter volunteer fire brigade “put the fire out”. Nobody got hurt.
major fire prevented
A similar fire in Upper Austria ended less severely. In Stroheim (Eferding district), the extension of a house caught fire on Saturday night. The fire probably started from a small roof truss. Three adults and two children slept in the main building. The fire was noticed in time for the residents to flee outside and alert the fire brigade.
Because of the snowfall, it was very difficult for the nine fire brigades to reach the site, says operations manager Helmut Sandmeier from the Stroheim volunteer fire brigade. “When we arrived, we saw that flames were shooting out of the roof around the chimney,” says Sandmeier. The firefighters then opened the roof structure and the fire was extinguished from above using a turntable ladder. After about five hours, “fire out” was given at 7.30 a.m.
In Kirchberg-Thening, two people had to be taken care of by the rescue team after a fire in a family home on Sunday afternoon. The fire broke out upstairs where a 21-year-old resident discarded a cigarette in a garbage can. He tried to extinguish the fire – but in vain. The alerted emergency services were able to extinguish the fire, and the man and his 58-year-old mother were taken to the hospital
In St. Marien in the Linz-Land district, the boiler room of a farmhouse caught fire around 11 a.m. on Saturday. The owner of the house, himself a firefighter, was able to prevent the flames from spreading until the fire brigade arrived, and the emergency services finally extinguished the fire. The cause of the fire is still unclear. (vaba)
