Almost four decades after the last interior renovation of the Bründlkirche in Bad Leonfeld, there is another structural fire on the roof: a comprehensive renovation is urgently needed. There is massive damage to the masonry in the 230-year-old, popular pilgrimage church. Paintings and plaster are peeling away from the walls up to a height of two meters, and lush mold is growing in the tower area. The gallery of votive offerings also shows traces of vandalism from uninvited visitors. According to a report by the Federal Monuments Office, the causes of these unpleasant conditions are silting up of the external drainage, insufficient ventilation of the interior and – above all – the extreme temperature contrasts of last summer. The pilgrimage church Maria Schutz am Bründl, also known as the Bründlkirche, is a listed building and dedicated to the Mother of God, Mary.
