The journalist specializing in scams, Maximiliano Firmman, told for NA: “The QR is not evil, but if you install an application from the link, You disable your phone’s security and follow steps without observing the risk. That’s where hacking can happen.”

In addition, the specialist explained that the QR that appears in the brochure may be linked to a link in which they ask to follow “certain steps” and there the cell phone security is inactivated. or they even make you download an app and the hack takes place.

In that sense, Firmman explained that this new modality is similar to that of “uncle’s story”, in which criminals “take advantage of that situation so that you let your guard down and they can scam you in another way.”

“It is important for people to distrust everything by default, but not to be afraid that a QR is going to clone your phone, because it is not like that,” stressed the journalist, who explained that “There is no technical way for that to happen.”

Finally, Firmman highlighted: “The fault is not the link but rather being scammed via the steps they make you do.”
