US President-elect Donald Trump named the investor Scott Bessent as secretary of United States Treasury. Trump says Bessent is a defender of American industry and will end “unfair trade imbalances.”

Bessent will be a hedge fund manager, a position as one of “the leading international investorsgeopolitical and economic strategists of the world.” The president-elect affirms that his candidate is a defender of the common people and the national industry.

Bessent would be in charge of increasing competitiveness, ending “unfair trade imbalances” and creating an economy that prioritizes growth, “especially through the global energy domain.”
