DISTRICT ROHRbach. “I’m cautiously optimistic that it’s realistic to start construction for the indoor pool in April,” says Andreas Lindorfer (VP). As the location mayor and chairman of the district-wide indoor pool working group, he has been in intensive negotiations with the state in recent weeks. “We managed to put together a new financing package with a budget of 15 million euros,” he says. Compared to the first concrete cost estimate, this is an increase of two million euros.

Of course, the municipalities in the district also have to bear the cost increase. “We had a mayoral conference at the end of the year. All mayors there have confirmed that they stand behind the project.” The Rohrbach-Berger mayor based his cautious optimism on this – knowing full well that one should not anticipate the municipal councils. At least on this point we have learned from the past few years.
In the project itself, the call for tenders is about to be completed. An award can only be made when the resolutions of all municipal councils are on the table. “But everyone involved knows that.” The submission project is being prepared. In this respect, a start of construction in April is quite realistic. Lindorfer hopes that the project will not fail in the last few meters and trusts in the positive mood from the mayors’ conference. As far as the financing of the project is concerned, the district of Rohrbach is a model student of cross-community cooperation. All 37 municipalities have adopted the old financing plan. Not least because of this, the state of Upper Austria agreed to additional funding. Nobody could have guessed that the construction costs would increase to such an extent in advance. But it was precisely this fact that made the renewed effort necessary.

Praise also comes from the SP, which repeatedly insisted on a binding indoor pool timetable during the election campaign last year: “The work in the cross-party working group was worth it,” says City Councilor Andreas Hannerer. Now one hopes for quick decisions and a quick start of construction in order to finally be able to implement this project. The earlier the start of construction, the less likely new surprises will be.
