Employees still clearly against home office in quarantine

“Obviously we are against working in quarantine in the home office,” emphasized GPA Chairwoman Barbara Teiber at a press conference on Monday. A rejection also came from Chamber of Labor President Renate Anderl.

She spoke out clearly against these demands, said Anderl – and emphasized that working from home is only possible for some of the employees. Teiber said her union even got feedback that while employers get payments from the state when workers are in quarantine, they still require workers to work. “This is fraud,” said the GPA unionist.

The Economic Association had demanded that employees in quarantine or isolation should continue to work from home. Separation should not automatically be treated like sick leave, the ÖVP sub-organization urged for new legal framework conditions in the light of the omicron variant of the corona virus.

This started a mock debate, AK Director Christoph Klein told the Wirtschaftsbund in the Ö1-Mittagsjournal. More than half of the employees could not work from the home office anyway. In addition, if there were no symptoms, employees would usually offer to continue working from home if there was a good working atmosphere, according to the AK director. In the direction of politics, Klein expressed the demand that quarantine notices should be issued more quickly.
