The Frankfurt Higher Regional Court found it proven that the man was involved in the preparation of high treason and was a member of a terrorist organization. The now 62-year-old was a member of the so-called Imperial Group, which was planning a coup in Germany.
Among other things, he agreed to temporarily store the necessary weapons in his garage. The police had infiltrated several undercover investigators, and the first group members were arrested in April 2022.
Regret in the last word
The public prosecutor’s office had demanded a prison sentence of two years and ten months for the 62-year-old, and the lawyer had demanded a sentence of less than three years. In his last word, the man said he regretted his actions. He has been in custody since autumn 2023.
“Reichsbürger” do not recognize the Federal Republic of Germany and its institutions and claim that the German Empire (1871-1945) continues to exist, hence their name.
