Ukrainian Foreign Ministry called the US decision on the departure of embassy staff premature

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine on January 24 called the decision of the US State Department on the departure of family members of diplomats and the voluntary departure of some employees from the country premature.

“Respecting the right of foreign states to ensure the security of their diplomatic missions, we consider such a step by the American side to be premature and a manifestation of excessive warning. In fact, there have been no cardinal changes in the security situation recently, ”the ministry said in a statement.

The Foreign Ministry added that “the decision of the US State Department does not mean that all employees of the American embassy will now leave Ukraine.”

“The embassy will continue to function fully. Members of the diplomatic mission have the opportunity to leave if they have such a desire. However, their departure is not at all obligatory,” the ministry said.

In addition, the Foreign Ministry reported that the Russian Federation is making “active efforts to destabilize the internal situation in Ukraine.”

“A large amount of misinformation, manipulation and fakes are being spread in the Ukrainian and international media space in order to sow panic among Ukrainians and foreigners, frighten businesses, and undermine the economic and financial stability of our state. In this situation, it is important to soberly assess the risks and remain calm, ”the message says.

On January 23, it was reported that the State Department ordered the voluntary departure of part of the American diplomatic staff and members of the families of diplomats from the territory of Ukraine, and also recommended that American citizens leave the country on their own.

American political scientist Bruce Marks called this decision “the hysteria around the Russian” invasion “.

On January 22, The New York Times published an article stating that Russia allegedly began to evacuate its diplomats from Ukraine. At the same time, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation denied this information.

The Russian side has repeatedly refuted groundless speculation about an allegedly possible invasion of Ukraine. On January 10, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov noted that Moscow had no intentions to attack Ukraine and could not have it. He stressed that all measures for the combat training of troops are carried out within Russian territory.
