“Our projection is that this year we will grow 3.5% to 4%, it is less as a percentage than our previous rate,” Francke told a news conference. “There is a base effect, since the number for 2021 is so high, the percentage of growth comes out a little lower, but at an absolute level (…) we are thinking that it will be almost two points above what we had projected before.”
The growth projection for 2022 is slightly higher than that of the Central Bank, which estimates an expansion of 3.4% for this year. Last August, the Ministry of Economy had said that the local economy could grow this year by 4.8%.
“We think that growth (last year) will be 13%, probably a little more, we are thinking a few more decimal places, because the figures for November were positive and exports came in at record highs,” said the minister.
The economy of the world’s second largest producer of copper grew by 3.47% year-on-year in November, because the advance of sectors linked to consumption was offset by a drop in the mining sector that is facing social conflicts.
