Macron will offer Putin his version of the de-escalation of the Ukrainian crisis

French President Emmanuel Macron is going to offer Russian leader Vladimir Putin his version of the de-escalation of the crisis in Ukraine. This was announced on Monday, January 24 AFP with reference to a source in the Elysee Palace.

It is noted that a telephone conversation between the leaders of the two countries will take place in the coming days.

“We are concerned about the situation and want to avoid additional volatility,” said a spokesman for the French presidential administration.

He also confirmed that a meeting of political advisers of the Normandy format (France, Germany, Russia and Ukraine) is scheduled for January 26 in Paris. The Russian delegation will be headed by Dmitry Kozak, Deputy Head of the Russian Presidential Administration.

Earlier in the day, Doctor of Political Science, former senior French intelligence official Eric Denesé opined that US policy towards Russia is “suicidal.” He believes that Ukrainians and Westerners are responsible for the current situation. It was they who allowed the overthrow of President Viktor Yanukovych, who was democratically elected, by force. The ex-intelligence officer also pointed out that after that, Kiev began to oppress the Russian-speaking population of Donbass, to which the United States and Europe turned a blind eye. Denese stressed that it was Russia’s firm position that forced the US and NATO to sit down at the negotiating table. In his opinion, the Americans realized that they could not emerge victorious from the conflict.

January 16, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov stressed that Russia is not showing military escalation against Ukraine.

Prior to that, on January 14, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said that the United States had evidence that Russia was allegedly preparing a pretext for invading Ukraine. Kirby noted that it was about “a group of operatives who are preparing to conduct a false flag operation.”

On the same day, Sergei Lavrov said that Russia had never threatened the Ukrainian people. In addition, the Foreign Ministry has repeatedly stressed that the Russian Federation did not attack and does not plan to attack Ukraine.
