The experts at MedUni Vienna’s Center for Virology summarized what is currently happening in Europe as follows: “Albania, Belarus, Georgia, Israel, Luxembourg, Norway, North Macedonia, Moldova, Russia and Sweden are reporting influenza virus activity.” With travel currently largely free again, influenza has an easier time again.

The virologist Monika Redlberger-Fritz (MedUni Vienna) said in autumn: “Influenza stands and falls with travel activities. It is a ‘traveling virus’. All measures that restrict travel also limit the spread of influenza. ” You could also see that in the extremely tough lockdowns in countries like Australia.
The past influenza season (2020/2021) was actually canceled due to the corona measures. But many leading experts in Europe are warning of a wave of illnesses that could build up alongside Covid-19 this year. There is still time to be protected against it with a vaccination.
