“The President of the Republic, who will have a conversation with President Putin and President Zelensky in the coming days, remains determined to use all the resources of diplomacy to maintain stability in Europe, as well as to demonstrate his solidarity and willingness to support the EU states and is concerned about their security,” the President said. in a statement.

It is noted that Macron expressed deep concern about the situation on the borders of Ukraine and stated “the need for collective work for the speedy de-escalation.” At the same time, allies must issue “firm and credible warnings against Russia.” This, the French President stressed, requires constant coordination between European partners and the United States, as well as an expanded dialogue with Moscow.

In addition, the Elysee Palace indicated that the French leader believes that the EU should fully participate in preparing a response to Russia’s security proposals.

Earlier, on January 24, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko, commenting on NATO’s decision to send additional forces to Eastern Europe, said that the alliance attributes aggressive intentions to Russia in order to justify its military activity on the eastern flank. He also noted that with such statements, NATO wants to demonstrate its relevance.

Earlier in the day it became known that NATO is strengthening its presence in Eastern Europe in connection with the situation around Ukraine. Additional weapons will be sent by Denmark, Spain, France, the Netherlands.

The United States has also made it clear that it is considering increasing its military presence in the eastern part of the Alliance.

On January 21, it became known that the German authorities did not allow their NATO ally Estonia to supply Ukraine with weapons of German origin. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stressed that the country’s government does not support the export of weapons from Germany to Ukraine. He pointed out that Berlin is “very actively” working to achieve a de-escalation of the situation around Ukraine.

January 16, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov stressed that Russia is not showing military escalation against Ukraine.

The Russian side has repeatedly refuted groundless speculation about an allegedly possible invasion of Ukraine. On January 10, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov noted that Moscow had no intentions to attack Ukraine and could not have it. He stressed that all measures for the combat training of troops are carried out within Russian territory.
