Shortly after 6 p.m., the 65-year-old from the Schärding district drove his car on the B 137 from Zell in the direction of Andorf. In the local area of Linden (municipality of Andorf) he wanted to overtake a car and a semitrailer truck driving in front of him. But while the man was overtaking, a 35-year-old driver from the Schärding district drove from the left onto the B 137 in the direction of Zell.
There was a head-on collision, with the 65-year-old’s car hitting the semi-trailer, both cars were then thrown off the road and came to a standstill on the adjacent embankments.
The 65-year-old and his 68-year-old wife were injured to an unspecified degree in the accident and were taken to the hospital in Ried by ambulance. The 35-year-old was taken to hospital with serious injuries. A breathalyser test carried out in the 65-year-old showed a blood alcohol level of 0.52. Innviertler Straße (B 137) was closed for about an hour.
