Sensational find confirmed: Häuslbauer came across 140 skeletons from the 13th century

In September of the previous year, a house builder found skeletons in the 2,700-inhabitant community in Burgenland. A total of 140 to 150 have now been uncovered and tested using the C14 method. They are likely to date from the 13th century, confirmed Eva Steigberger from the Federal Monuments Office on Tuesday in a report by ORF Burgenland.

A previously unknown church and cemetery may have been located at the site where it was found. It can be assumed that there are also remains of the cemetery from the Middle Ages under the surrounding properties, according to Steigberger to the APA.

According to their information, there were a total of 36 archaeological measures – excavations or prospections – spread across the entire country in the previous year. The finds range from the Neolithic Age to the Second World War.
