Mückstein rejects easing

When visiting a primary care center in Vienna, however, Mücksten emphasized that the measures should only be in place “as long as it is epidemiologically necessary”. And that is constantly checked.

In view of the obligation to vaccinate at the beginning of February, the economy and the opposition had called for relaxation. Recently, not only the FPÖ had called for an end to the lockdown for the unvaccinated, but also the NEOS. In the SPÖ, the deputy club boss Jörg Leichtfried and the Burgenland governor Hans Peter Doskozil had expressed themselves in this direction. The opposition also called for the 10 p.m. curfew to be abolished. And on the business side, trade is pushing for an end to 2G controls in shops.

Mückstein explained to journalists on Tuesday that they regularly check whether the measures are still necessary. The experts would advise daily. At the same time, however, the minister pointed out that the omicron wave was still in the middle and the number of infections was very high.

Mückstein also does not want to shake up contact tracing, although it no longer works in some federal states. The minister emphasized that it was a major challenge given the numbers, but it was important to break the chain of infection. He admitted that two or three states are struggling, but the rest are doing very well. Upper Austria recently announced that it would stop contact tracing and only send infected people to quarantine.
