You don’t feel heard. Staff and works councils of the Med-Campus in Linz took to the streets again yesterday for “better conditions” in nursing and health professions. A human chain that stretched from the Brothers of Mercy hospital to the country house demanded “a lot more money for health and care to prevent employees from burning out”.
Helmut Freudenthaler, Chairman of the MedCampus Operations Committee, sees “no significant improvements” despite numerous calls for help and protests in recent weeks. The most important immediate measure would be the “employment of support staff” and their “significant salary increase”. These measures are important to prevent further overload during the pandemic.
The protesters called for an “expansion instead of a cap” on health spending. More and more people who work in the health and care sector are “at risk of burnout”. The pandemic has exacerbated this situation again. The lack of staff in the nursing homes “cost many people their lives in the autumn of the previous year”.
