Since this week you can observe unusual flight maneuvers over the north of the country. The pilots will practice tactical flying there. That means they will “travel at different heights and at different speeds,” announced the military command of Upper Austria. However, the army is planning neither supersonic nor night flights.
Among other things, the pilots practice escorting or intercepting aircraft. The start is in Langenlebarn (Lower Austria) or in Zeltweg (Styria). In exceptional cases, take-offs from the Vogler Air Base in Hörsching are also possible. Training takes place Monday to Thursday in the afternoon and Friday in the morning. Flights are also planned for next week. Helicopters of the type OH-58 Kiowa and S-70 Black Hawk as well as the Eurofighter combat aircraft are used for the exercises.
