Corona positive: Upper Austrian fears for his Olympic start

Freeskier Samuel Baumgartner fears for his Olympic debut. The 24-year-old is in quarantine after a positive corona test.

“It will be exciting to see if I can enter China,” revealed Baumgartner at the farewell to the Upper Austrian Olympic athletes on Tuesday. For safety reasons, all athletes were connected online to this event.

The freeskier’s flight from SC Hinterstoder is scheduled for January 31st. “January 28 (Friday, note) is the target date,” explained Baumgartner. By then he hopes to deliver a negative test result at the latest. “The positive thing is that I have no symptoms, I’m physically fine.”

Austria is sending 106 athletes to the Winter Games that begin on February 4 in Beijing, nine of them are from Upper Austria – including Baumgartner.
