Forecast: Increase to more than 37,000 new infections expected

With the current 34,000 new infections with the corona virus within 24 hours, the end of the flagpole in the Omicron wave is far from being reached. The Covid forecast consortium assumes that the numbers will continue to rise. The point estimate for next Wednesday – this was hit almost exactly in the forecasts for the past two weeks – is 37,688 cases.

In any case, at least more than 30,000 officially confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infections per day can still be expected. In the worst case, according to the forecast consortium, almost 50,000 new infections can be expected next Wednesday.

As a result, the number of hospitals will also increase again. In the intensive care units, where the situation had recently stabilized, between 200 and 270 seriously ill Covid patients are expected next Wednesday, and in the following week (February 9) between 230 and 360. In the normal care area, between 1,230 and 2,200 less severe Covid-19 sufferers predicted, within 14 days the experts assume that there will be 1,260 Covid sufferers in normal wards. A surface number of 2,218 is given as a possible upper limit for February 9th – the Wednesday in two weeks. For comparison: 197 Covid patients are currently being cared for in intensive care, while 1,119 people are being cared for in the normal wards.
