From Tuesday (February 1), Danes will no longer have to wear masks or show proof of vaccination in most places, Danish Prime Minister Mette Fredriksen said in Copenhagen on Wednesday. Her government is thus following the instructions of the responsible commission, which recommended that the emergency measures to combat the pandemic be phased out.
For the time being, however, a test obligation for those entering the country and non-mandatory recommendations for tests and other precautionary measures should remain, said Fredriksen.
Clubs open, major events possible again
With this step, clubs can open normally again from February and major events can take place unhindered. The easing is justified by the fact that the prevailing omicron variant causes, on average, less severe courses than earlier variants. The number of patients in intensive care units and on ventilators is relatively low despite the tense infection situation.
Denmark has been setting new highs for new infections for days. 46,590 new corona cases were counted on Tuesday. The Danish State Serum Institute announced that the number of severe courses was declining.
