The roller coaster ride continues. After the heavy snowfalls of the past week, Upper Austria was allowed to sunbathe for three days on the edge of a high pressure area. At least where the fog didn’t spread its cold carpet over the lowlands. Today he will do it again, but due to the rising westerly wind, which reaches peaks of up to 50km/h, there are significantly more chances of enjoying the sun’s rays again. As of tomorrow, that will be over for the time being.
“We’re slipping out of the high pressure area back into an unstable north-west flow. It’s going to be wet and windy,” says ZAMG meteorologist Alexander Ohms. Rain and snowfall (limit between 600 and 800 meters above sea level) are spreading on Friday night, and a stormy westerly wind is making it even more uncomfortable. A very similar picture on Saturday, even if the loosening up could at least make us a little optimistic. Sunday is turbulent: the snow line rises to 1200 meters above sea level, the wind reaches hurricane force in the mountains.
“A significant calming of the weather is also not evident in the long-term forecasts. The uncomfortable weather will also accompany us next week,” says Ohms.
While there will be “no lasting winter picture” in the valleys, up to one meter of fresh snow will fall in the northern areas. The avalanche danger is critical again.
