French Defense Ministry experts to arrive in Romania for possible deployment of NATO mission

Experts from the French Ministry of Defense will arrive on Thursday, January 27, in Romania to study the parameters of a possible deployment of a NATO mission there. This was announced by the head of the French department Florence Parly during her visit to Bucharest.

The current security situation is causing concern on Europe’s eastern flank, she said. Parley clarified that in this case we are talking about a tense situation around Ukraine.

The minister also added that France remains ready to commit itself to deploying new missions within NATO, in particular in Romania, if the alliance decides to do so.

“Today, a group of experts from my ministry is arriving in Romania to study the parameters of this possible deployment,” Parley concluded.

Earlier in the day, Thierry Mariani, a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament, said that the information about the alleged Russian “invasion” of Ukraine had no basis. According to him, rumors of a “Russian attack” are being fueled and actively spread by the United States, NATO countries and Ukraine itself.

In recent weeks, the Western media have repeatedly appeared articles about the alleged possible Russian invasion of Ukraine. Against this background, American lawmakers are calling for tougher sanctions against Moscow. Russia has repeatedly rejected reports of an alleged possible invasion of Ukraine. On January 10, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov noted that Moscow had no intentions to attack Ukraine and could not have.

On Jan. 26, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said the United States believes the West and Russia have not exhausted diplomatic options to resolve the Ukraine crisis. He stressed that there is no reason to consider a conflict or sanctions against Moscow because of the situation in Ukraine inevitable.
