The president Javier Milei He said he hopes to close a new agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) during the first quarter of 2025 with the objective of “definitively exiting the stocks“.
The president made these statements when leading an event at the Córdoba Stock Exchange, thus confirming that the Government formally requested a new agreement, as announced Scope.
“The authorities have formally expressed their interest in moving to a new program and negotiations are underway,” he announced. on thursday Julie Kozack, spokesperson of the multilateral organization, in response to a query from this media within the framework of a press conference held in Washington. He then clarified that “the current SAF Extended Facilities (program) will expire at the end of this year.”
Regarding the two current reviews, the official explained that “It is not uncommon for authorities to let an existing agreement expire without completing all reviews while they are considering moving to a new IMF-backed program.”
Milei praised Bullrich, whom he described as “formidable and wonderful” after Villarruel’s criticism
In another part of his speech Milei praised the Minister of Security, Patricia Bullrich, which he described as “formidable and wonderful” after the criticism he received from the vice president Victoria Villarruel for the situation of gendarme Nahuel Gallo, kidnapped in Venezuela by the government of Nicolás Maduro.
The day after the head of the Senate assured that, in her place, she “would never have authorized a gendarme to go to Venezuela,” the President inaugurated the Córdoba Stock Exchange from where he highlighted the work of his official in matters of social security while reviewing what he considers the milestones of his management.
“The adjustment was seven points of GDP, and given that we were aware that the increase in savings was not going to have a counterpart in investment, we knew that initially we were going to have a drop in the level of economic activity and that, furthermore, while We were honest, the economy implied a jump in poverty, so we decided, from Human Capital, to provide social support to the most vulnerable,” he stated.
Along the same lines, he continued: “While also in a joint action between Minister Pettovello, the formidable and wonderful Minister Patricia Bullrich and the dear Guillermo Ferraro, may he rest in peace, did the phenomenal job of not only providing support to the most vulnerable, but that action allowed us to put an end to the managers of poverty and who abused those who have the least.”
Praise for the cabinet
With high praise for his economic team, and with several definitions of the future program, the head of state highlighted the measures adopted by the former head of the PRO in matters of Security.

“What seemed impossible, we have made it possible, and not only in terms of pickets, the previous Government said that it had lost the fight against drug trafficking and that Rosario was lost, and Dr. Bullrich designed the Bandera Plan and it dropped 70% the homicides in Rosario,” the president stressed.
