France is postponing the Matura exams from mid-March to mid-May in view of the massive corona wave. The current high number of corona infections makes it difficult to organize the exams, and there are also many cases of illness, the Ministry of Education in Paris justified the decision on Friday. Everyone should have the same chances and enough time for reasonable preparation, it said.
The written exams will be postponed, the selection of questions will be simplified and the language level check will be cancelled.
The number of new infections registered daily in France was 392,168 on Thursday, and the seven-day incidence was around 3800. The omicron variant is responsible for a good 95 percent of cases. In the meantime, however, the number of infections is falling in the regions that were first affected by the omicron wave, including the greater Paris area. Despite a further increase in hospital admissions, the number of corona patients in intensive care units is falling.
