Bishkek and Dushanbe on Friday, January 28, agreed on a complete ceasefire on the border, as well as on the withdrawal of additional forces deployed to the conflict site. This was reported by the Border Service of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan.
“Following the negotiations of the plenipotentiary representative of the President of Kyrgyzstan in the Batken region Abdikarim Alimbaev and the border representative of the republic in the Batken direction Kyyalbek Tolonbaev with the governor of the Sughd region of Tajikistan Rajabba Ahmadzoda and the border representative of the republic, agreements were reached on a complete ceasefire; on the withdrawal of each of the parties of additional forces and means, drawn to the border, to the places of permanent deployment, ”the text of the message of the TASS department quotes.
It is also noted that an agreement was reached on opening traffic along the Batken-Isfana (Kyrgyzstan) highway, as well as on joint patrolling by law enforcement officers of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan of border areas to prevent conflicts.
In addition, representatives of law enforcement agencies of both countries took part in the talks.
The conflict between representatives of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan arose on January 27 in the area of Tort-Kocho on one of the sections of the Batken-Isfana highway. For some time it was possible to settle it, but then it flared up again. The border guards of Kyrgyzstan were transferred to a reinforced version of the service due to tension on the border with Tajikistan.
The Kyrgyz side stated that the Tajik side, for unknown reasons, blocked the Osh-Batken-Isfana road, which caused the situation on the border to worsen. Representatives of law enforcement agencies arrived at the scene and called for a peaceful settlement of the issue. However, a few minutes after the conclusion of the negotiations, a firefight ensued.
As a result, one local resident was killed and 17 people were injured. 13 Tajiks were injured, including 11 servicemen (one in serious condition) and two civilians. There are four victims from the Kyrgyz side. A gunshot wound was received by an assistant to the mayor of Isfara, who went to the scene with other civil servants.
Shortly before midnight on the evening of January 27, representatives of the conflicting parties resumed negotiations to normalize the situation on the border, which were interrupted by shooting.
