Obersteirer forged “recovery certificates” and passed them on

A 55-year-old suspect confessed to sharing self-made confirmations of Covid recovery and lab results of detected antibodies with at least 17 men and women. As the police announced on Friday, the Upper Styrian had even had a doctor’s stamp made for it.

As early as the end of 2021, officials during Covid controls had noticed anomalies in a “recovery certificate” presented. Investigations then confirmed the suspicion that the alleged medical certificate was a total forgery. The letter should prove an already recovered Covid infection. The police have now investigated the 55-year-old pensioner from the Liezen district. During a house search, the officials discovered the stamp of a general practitioner from the Liezen district. The real doctor apparently did not even know that the forged certificates were being circulated with a counterfeit stamp and his name.

The suspect confessed that he made the fakes himself in order to use and distribute them himself. He did not sell them, but only gave them to friends as a courtesy. The buyers identified so far have mostly confessed and admitted that they knowingly accepted counterfeits. Their motive was to make it easier to get through 2G and 3G controls in everyday life.

The 55-year-old is reported for forgery. In addition, several administrative law complaints are made to the Liezen district authority for disregarded Covid protective measures.
