The City of Vienna Marketing drew a positive conclusion with the event ending at 2 a.m. There were no notable incidents, the mood of the guests was generally good and the situation along the eight stages was calm. When asked by APA, the police also spoke of quiet celebrations.
The rush to the Vienna New Year’s Eve Trail was very large on Tuesday. At around 11.40 p.m. the entire event area was closed to further guests because it was at full capacity, according to a release. Previously, all 40 security barriers in front of the city center, where seven of the eight stages are located, were put into operation.
“The organizer asks all celebrants who are just now setting off to stop heading for the stages along the New Year’s Eve path and to stay away from the event,” said the City of Vienna Marketing. The flow of visitors to the city center was already so large that the Vienna public transport company closed the Stephansplatz subway station for safety reasons. The U1 and U3 trains no longer stopped there.
There has been a party atmosphere in the city since the afternoon
Since Tuesday 2 p.m., the stages on Freyung, Am Hof, Graben, Stephansplatz, Kärntner Straße and Neuer Markt have been attracting visitors with more than 100 hours of program with free entertainment across all genres. The locations Wintermarkt am Riesenradplatz in the Prater and Rathausplatz – the largest of the eight stages – started the program at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. respectively.
