They denounce that the City accesses personal information through Blinkay

On social networks, it was reported that the Blinkay application, which allows parking in metered spaces in the City, improperly obtains location and personal data from users. The investigation is being carried out by the Buenos Aires Ombudsman’s Office.

He City Government and eliminated the classic old parking meter system to replace it with a new time measurement system parking lot. The new application will be available in paid parking areas in the neighborhoods of San Telmo, Montserrat, San Nicolás, Retiro, Recoleta and Balvanera.

Since last week, in the City it is no longer necessary to buy the tokens or go out to renew the street parking ticket. With the app Blinkay You can manage the time the vehicle spends in metered areas. There are two possibilities: for a certain period of time, where you pay for an exact number of hours; and a free mode, where the user leaves it for as long as they need, without limit, and must renew it.

However, not all that glitters is gold. In recent days, there was a report about the alleged theft of data from users who use the app in the City. They denounce that after Blinkay, the City can access sensitive information about each personboth your device and your identity.

The complaint arose in Twitter this Saturday. There the user @NetNezva published a message in which he warned that the application Blinkay He “sucked” the data, that is, without any permission he recorded sensitive information about the person. “The shitty app that the @gcba forces you to use for parking (@blinkay_ar) harvests and distributes personal data arbitrarily and unnecessarily. Outraged by the situation, he reported what happened to the City Ombudsmanthrough the official account of the agency Protection of Personal Data (@ProtDatosPer). Immediately, the organization took action on the matter. According to the complaint on the networks this Saturday, Blinkay “transmits the phone’s IMEI, IMSI and MAC (and other identifying data) to the company’s servers, and also uses the Adjust SDK tracking framework, which “sucks” that and other data to its servers”.

Now it remains for the agency to activate the procedure and the investigation process to verify if the Blinkay app really violates data privacy. If this were the case, thousands of users would be affected, which could lead to an even greater number of complaints.
