This was announced by Linz Mayor Klaus Luger (SP) and Municipal Director Ulrike Huemer.
Hein, who suffered a brain hemorrhage in May 2021, withdrew from politics after the fall election for health reasons. He will start his new job in February.
The Greens, ÖVP and Neos were surprised. The parties criticized the fact that no information had been given in advance about the expansion of the management. It is unclear which tasks the additional managing director should take on. The Greens also call it worrying that the job is being filled by a politician who has only recently retired
New board of directors planned
City boss Luger justifies the expansion with the ongoing digitization in the city and a broadening range of tasks. Hein, who comes from the IT industry and “clearly” asserted himself at the hearing among five candidates, will convince with his performance, said Luger.
The city manager can understand the anger at the lack of transparency, that the IKT does not have a supervisory board, as is known from other municipal companies, Luger now wants to change it. In the future, there will also be a place for political representatives on the ICT committee.
