The administration of Czech President Milos Zeman mistakenly destroyed a secret report on the explosions at the military warehouses in the village of Vrbetice, which the authorities suspect the Russian security services of organizing. This was announced on Saturday, January 29, by radio Český rozhlas, citing sources in the presidential administration and the investigation team.
It is noted that this fact became clear when the police asked the presidential administration to submit a secret document for verification. Law enforcement officers received a response that the report had been destroyed by mistake.
Representatives of the administration assured that persons who did not have access to work with secret documents could not read the report on Vrbetica. The police will check whether the administration of the head of state has violated Czech laws.
Russian-Czech relations deteriorated sharply after April 17, 2021. Then the Czech authorities accused Moscow of alleged involvement in the explosions at the ammunition depots in the village of Vrbetice in 2014. 18 Russian diplomats were expelled from the country, who were recognized as members of the Russian special services.
In response, the Russian Foreign Ministry expressed a strong protest to the Czech Republic, calling the accusations “unfounded and far-fetched.” In addition, 20 employees of the Czech embassy in Moscow were declared persona non grata. Later, the countries brought the number of diplomatic missions to parity.
On June 28, 2021, it became known that the Czech Republic demanded compensation from Russia for damages in the amount of €25.5 million in connection with explosions at warehouses in Vrbetica.
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, pointed out that the department considered the demands for compensation to be extortion.
