Japan reveals type of ballistic missile launched by North Korea

North Korea could launch a ballistic missile, medium or long range. This was announced at a press conference on Sunday, January 30, by Japanese Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno, NHK reports.

“There is a possibility that a medium-range or above-average range ballistic missile was launched,” he said.

The Cabinet Secretary added that Japan will take all measures to ensure the security of the country and people by collecting information and “tracking alerts for further ballistic missile launches.”

According to him, the rocket flew about 800 km and reached a maximum height of 2,000 km. The flight lasted about 30 minutes. Entry into the exclusive economic zone of Japan was not recorded.

Matsuno condemned Pyongyang’s missile tests, stressed that they violated the UN Security Council resolution, and announced that he had sent a strong protest to the organization.

A crisis headquarters has been set up at the office of the Prime Minister of Japan. Prime Minister Fumio Kishida instructed “to carry out a detailed analysis of the situation, including the security of air and sea transport, to inform people in detail and in a timely manner, and to take all necessary measures in case of unforeseen circumstances.”

On January 30, an unidentified projectile was launched from North Korea towards the Sea of Japan. The information about the missile launch was confirmed by the Japanese Coast Guard.

This launch of a North Korean missile was the seventh in a row since the beginning of the year. The last launch took place on January 27.

Earlier, on January 14, the UK has already announced the unacceptability of tests in the DPRK. The country’s Foreign Ministry stressed the importance of sanctions against the illegal development of weapons by the DPRK while its military programs are in place.

On January 13, US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield expressed the position of Washington, which proposed that the UN impose sanctions against Pyongyang for six ballistic missile launches from September 2021, since each of them was a violation of UN Security Council resolutions.
