Although it is true that the sector is not going through its best moment, the working conditions of the early 20th century had very little to do with the current ones. Workers’ rights were few or none and wages were very low. In addition, employees in the sector had to undergo long hours without any type of regulation or state protection.

UTA headquarters

What is the origin of the UTA
He Labor context of the early 1900s was, at the very least, unregulated. Workers lacked monthly or weekly breaks, had no paid vacations, and unjustified suspensions and dismissals were common. With this present, the worker organization and creation of the union was imminent, which occurred in 1919.
After 6 years of its formation, The UTA was the first organization that managed to adopt the centralized “union” modelwhich means being considered a first-level national union by branch. Some of the most prominent leaders of this union were Ramón Seijas, general secretary of the CGT in 1944-1955; Hipólito Atilio López, vice-governor of Córdoba; and Juan Manuel Palacios, founder of the Argentine Workers Movement (MTA).
Who currently runs the UTA (January 2025)
Currently, the UTA makes up the group of unions of the Argentine Labor Movement. It is part of the General Confederation of Labor (CGT) and is affiliated with the International Transport Federation. And the Secretary General is Roberto Carlos Fernández.
