Heavy storm in Lower Austria: 2,800 firefighters on duty

An incident associated with the storm in the Waldviertel ended relatively lightly. On the B30 near Tiefenbach in the municipality of Kautzen (Waidhofen ad Thaya district), a tree fell on the bonnet of a moving car. The car was badly damaged, but the driver was not injured, according to the fire department.


A person in Haag (Amstetten district) was almost hit by a tree. Several popular pedestrian routes were subsequently closed there. In the meantime, more than 40 fire brigades were deployed in the Mostviertler district alone.


There were injuries in the afternoon in a traffic accident in the Gänserndorf district. According to the police, a 61-year-old had left the road in Groß-Enzersdorf with his car due to gusts of wind and crashed into trees. The local was seriously injured. Women aged 26 and 53 who rode with the man also sustained injuries. The emergency doctor helicopter “Christophorus 3” was used.

In Pottenstein (Baden district), a party tent had been torn from its anchorage, got stuck in a telephone line and was rescued by fire brigade members. A large advertising poster was partially torn from its attachment to a furniture store in Wiener Neudorf (Mödling district). The helpers in the Tulln district were occupied with fallen trees and fallen roof tiles. According to the district command, a total of around 130 helpers were deployed here.
