Against the background of India’s desire for self-sufficiency in the production of weapons, New Delhi is placing particular emphasis on the joint production of weapons and obtaining defense technologies from partners. And in this regard, Moscow remains the main partner for New Delhi. The newly appointed Russian Ambassador to India, Denis Alipov, spoke about this in an interview with Izvestia.
“Now the competition in the market is more focused on who and to what extent is ready to cooperate with the Indians in the joint creation of weapons and in the transfer of advanced defense technologies to India. And in this context, we remain at the forefront. Few of the other Indian partners are ready to offer the country advanced military technologies to the same extent as Russia,” the diplomat said.
At the same time, Denis Alipov acknowledged that competition in the Indian arms market is quite fierce, and Russia has to compete with the United States, France and Israel, among other countries producing advanced weapons. Competition in technology transfer, he said, also exists and will increase.
At the same time, at the moment, the share of Russian weapons in India is still up to 70%, which makes the Russian Federation India’s main partner in the military-technical and defense spheres, the ambassador concluded.
