Leopold Daxberger and Fritz Neißer laid the foundation stone. In the challenging post-war times, the two musicians founded a music school in Raab in 1950. An initiative that would prove to be a milestone for young musicians in the region in the years to come and strengthen the surrounding bands and choirs. Daxberger and Neißer carried out extensive pioneering work and taught the first students on various instruments.
In 2025 the Raaber Music School will celebrate its 75th anniversary. Over the past decades, the school has developed into an important institution for the cultural landscape in the Schärding district. In addition to the music school, the library and the Raab art and cultural association are also housed in the school building.
Cradle for talent
“The impressive development shows how deeply rooted music is in the region and how sustainably it enriches cultural life. The Raab music school remains a role model for how education and art hand in hand can promote community life,” says the current music school director Gerald Charles. More than 100 children and young people are currently being taught by twelve professional teachers. The teachers also include some former students who took their first musical steps in Raab. Many talented people even managed to get into prestigious orchestras or universities from Raab. According to Karl, it is also noteworthy that five active music school teachers live in Raab. “This not only shows the connection to their homeland, but also the successful musical training and support in the region,” says the director. The music school in Raab remains a shining example of how cultural traditions are maintained and new things are passed on to future generations.
