Kitzbühel a week ago, the tourist hotspot is located in the so-called January hole, the cool-down phase between the Christmas holidays and the Hahnenkamm race weekend. In the past, financially strong guests from Russia turned this hole into a shoulder season. Since the war against Ukraine, they have retreated in Kitzbühel. While the preparatory work for the 85th Hahnenkamm Race is already underway on the Streif, the calm before the storm reigns down in the city.

The local home stage is currently playing “Deifi Sparifankerl”, a “hellishly cheerful joke” – which doesn’t go badly with the hellishly cheerful ski races anyway. The topic of conversation among the locals is less the weakness of the Austrian downhill team led by leader Vincent Kriechmayr, but rather the new Kitzbühel logo. In the course of the redesign, the chamois in the city’s lettering, designed by painter Alfons Walde, lost its lower body. There is great excitement, the petition of the former tourism chairwoman Signe Reisch with the demand “We want the original Kitzbüheler chamois back” was signed by more than four thousand people, along with ski emperor Franz Klemm. The new tourism chairman Christian Harisch remained stubborn when it came to the styling of his new chamois.
