It is not known exactly how long Gallneukirchen has existed. Today’s Gallneukirchen was probably founded as a mission parish by the diocese of Passau in the 9th century. The place, as well as the communities of Engerwitzdorf, Lasberg and Katsdorf, were first mentioned in a document in the deed of donation from the Griesbacher family to the St. Florian Monastery from 1125. Gallneukirchen is referred to there as “Novenkirchen”. The document was issued and signed in the presence of witnesses at the bishop’s court in Passau at a council meeting. Today it is located in the St. Florian Abbey Archives.
