On September 1, 2024, the RTR Anti-Spoofing Regulation came into force in Austria. This refers to the misuse of Austrian telephone numbers by fraudsters. And these cases of abuse have fallen dramatically, the regulatory authority RTR reported this week.
This was shown by the complaints received by the telephone number misuse reporting center. “From April to August 2024, around 1,400 complaints about misuse of one’s own telephone number were registered on average per month, but in September the number fell to 192 complaints. In December there were only 69 complaints that we registered,” said Klaus Steinmaurer, Managing Director of Rundfunk und Telekom Regels-GmbH (RTR) for the telecommunications and postal departments.
